Prof. Giuseppe Cantatore
Professor of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry at the University "Vita-Salute" San Raffaele in Milan

Professor Giuseppe Cantatore graduated in Medicine in 1980 at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. 

In 1983 he specialized in General Dentistry at the same University. 

Prof. Cantatore taught Endodontic at the University of L’Aquila from 1987 to 1991 and of Rome “La Sapienza” from 1992 to 1998. 

From 2000 to 2014 he has been Associate Professor of Endodontics at the University of Verona-Italy. 

Since 2014 he is Professor of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry at the University “Vita-Salute” San Raffaele in Milan. In the same University Professor Cantatore is Coordinator of the Department of Carious Pathology. 

Dr. Cantatore is Author of more than 100 articles mostly related to Endodontics published on National and International Dental Magazines. As an International Speaker Dr. Cantatore gave Precongress Courses, Workshop and Presentations during the most important International Meeting; among them the American Association of Endodontists, the IFEA (International Federation of Endodontic Associations), and the European Association of Endodontists (ESE). 

Dr. Cantatore is Past-President of the European Society of Dental Microscopy (EFAM), Past-President of the Italian Society of Endodontists (SIE), Honorary Member of the Italian Association of Dental Microscopy (AIOM), Honorary Member of the Libanese Society of Endodontics. Dr. Cantatore lives and works in Rome with clinical practice limited to Endodontics. 

At the Present Time Dr. Cantatore is Professor of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry at the University “Vita-Salute” San Raffaele in Milan. In the same University Professor Cantatore is Coordinator of the Department of Carious Pathology. Furthermore Prof. Cantatore is Professor in the “Master of Endodontics” at University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Prof. of Endodontics in the Specialization School of Pediatric Dentistry at University “La Sapienza” in Rome and Prof. of Endodontics at the Specialization School of Oral Surgery at University S.Raffaele in Milan.

“Treatment planning dilemmas for Endodontic Complex Cases” Professor Giuseppe Cantatore

This presentation is dedicated to the Endodontists who still believe that saving our patient’s teeth should be our duty and our mission even in the presence of particularly complex cases. The presentation will be divided in 3 Parts, each of them documented with X-rays, CBCT Scans and HD Videos.

1. Part 1: “Treatment of traumatized teeth in young patients.”
Clinical cases of permanent teeth in young patients who suffered trauma will be presented. The treatment plan in these cases can be difficult and highly variable depending on: age of the patient, formation of the root apex, presence of external or internal resorptions, presence of vital or necrotic pulp, presence of periapical radiolucency, type of trauma etc.…. The use of CBCT, operating microscope and bioceramic materials can help to successfully face these clinical cases even if the outcomes are not always predictable given the importance of the patient's individual response.

2. Part 2: Relations between Endodontic Failures and missed canals.
In this presentation the importance of the untreated canal spaces as one of the main reasons of the endodontic failures will be discussed on the basis of the E.B. Literature. Operative sequences for disassembling and removal old endodontic obturation and for locating and negotiating the missed canals will be exposed. Since retreatment often fail because of our inability to remove all the remnants of the primary treatment, we will exam various techniques to improve the detersion and disinfection of the root canal system. Finally, it will be demonstrated, with various clinical cases, the importance of the CBCT and of additional software based on the CBCT DICOM files, to understand the reasons of the endodontic failures and locate the untreated canal space.

3. Part 3: Treatment of difficult Root Canal Systems.
This lecture will start with an exam of the techniques for treating teeth with calcified canals. These canals represent a real challenge for Endodontists. However, with prudence and with the help of the Microscope, adequate ultrasonic tips and CBCT, many severely calcified canals can be successfully treated. The second part of this lecture will be dedicated to the presentation of clinical cases with complex Root Canal Systems, from “Dens Invaginatus” type 2 and 3 to mandibular premolars with bifurcated or trifurcated canals. For each of these cases the treatment planning will be discussed with participants.

6. A classic protocol to treat severely calcified canals.
7. Basic principles of guided endodontics to create micro-access to the calcified canals.
8. Treatment planning in cases of “Dens Invaginatus” type II and III
9. Treatment Planning in mandibular bifurcated premolars.
