Dr. Mario Roccuzzo, DDS

Mario Roccuzzo is Lecturer in Periodontology and member of the attending staff of the Division of Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Torino, Italy and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine, School of Dentistry at University of Michigan.

Dr. Roccuzzo teaches Periodontology in several Master courses at the Universities of Torino, Bologna and Milan San Raffaele.

He is an active member of the Italian Society of Periodontology and the Italian Academy of Osseointegration.

He serves on the editorial board of Clinical Oral Implants Research, the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, and the International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry.

Dr. Roccuzzo has been invited to lecture in more than 40 countries of all continents. Awarded for the best clinical presentation at the 2009 EAO Congress and for the best published research article by the German Society of Periodontology in 2010.

Winner of the 2013 Osteology Clinical Research Prize, and in 2015 of the best clinical presentation at the SIDO International Congress.

He maintains a private practice limited to Periodontology and Implantology in Torino, Italy.

"Post-extractive implantology: the alternative treatment”

ABSTRACT:

Over the past 20 years, the use of dental implants has become the standard of care for the rehabilitation of patients. Esthetics, however, is an inseparable part of today’s oral treatment, and successful modern therapy can no longer be judged by whether or not the implant osseointegrates.

One of the greatest challenges facing clinicians is to obtain an ideal soft tissue integration that mimics a perfect gingival contour.

This is not always easily achievable immediately after the extraction of a compromised tooth. Consequently, dentists face the dilemma of when straightforward implant therapy is indicated or when regeneration of hard and/or soft tissues should be preferred.

The lecture will focus on what should and should not be done in a variety of different cases. Treatment objectives and options will be thoroughly discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

1. Evaluate hard and soft tissues to achieve optimal esthetic;

2. Identify the situations where ridge preservation is indicated;

3. Recognize when and how implants can be placed immediately after tooth extraction.
